趣旨説明

Photo-responsive physical and chemical properties in coordination chemistry play key roles in the development of molecule-based materials which demands the precise molecular design in response to the expanding varieties of their applications. For instance, the fine tuning of bonding strengths and modes of coordination between organic ligands and metal ions even through supramolecular interactions that are generally expected to be rather weak affords drastic changes of luminescence behaviors via the triplet MLCT transitions of transition metal complexes or the ff and df transitions of lanthanide complexes. Thereby, from the viewpoint of the quantum efficiency, lifetime, spectral band widths, degree of circular polarization, and Stokes shift, the fascinating and occasionally mysterious luminescence properties of metal complexes which completely differ from those of organic molecular systems would be appropriate for specialized applications, e.g., bioimaging, EL, sensors, molecular devices, and so on. Thus, the excited-state behaviors of coordination compounds have attracted considerable attention as a result of their relation to novel photofunctions not only in the luminescence properties but also in the redox photocatalysis. In this session, five topics of the on-demand photofunctions in coordination chemistry are to be prvided; (i) tectonic molecules/aggregation with luminescence (Prof. Hosseini), (ii) molecular shaped-induced circularly polarizing luminescence of f-elements (Dr. Yuasa), (iii) on-demand molecular bio-labeling/sensing as well as photocatalysis (Prof. You), (iv) in-vivo visualization of tumor tissues (Prof. Tobita), and (v) water-to-energy conversion with light (Dr. Mulyana). Speakers and audiences all together will be able to share the time of fruitful discussion and brainstorming on each subject provided by the above prestigious researches, two of whom will be invited from abroad.
